Honorable Leona Williams Memorial Scholarship

The Honorable Leona Williams

A quiet and humble person was an active member of the Lenox Road Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York. She also served as District Leader, State Committee Person in the 43 rd Assembly District, Republican party for Kings County. As District Leader she served as one of the unsung heroes of the time. Elected to provide community leadership in public and political affairs, and as an unpaid volunteer elected official, her duties included: Working with the city Board of Elections to nominate poll workers; Nominating candidates for judgeship in Civil and Supreme Court; Serving as a member of the county’s party executive committee which votes for the party leadership. The job was an opportunity to recruit people to get involved in city politics. She helped to build her party locally and in her own Assembly district. Leona Williams served as the Secretary to the Community Council for Medgar Evers College. She relocated to Pennsylvania and subsequently passed on May 13, 2016. Her family honors her memory with this scholarship created to assist students that are: Non-traditional; experiencing hardship; or demonstrate community service.
